王府井大甜水井胡同全拆光了，新盖的房子完全没了生活的气息，这些见证过不少历史的硕大的老砖躺在路边前途未卜。背景上的墙则是新盖的，对比明显。
胡同就像酿酒的老窖，拆了重盖那不叫保护，有益菌全死了，剩下的只是个空壳都算不上模型而已。我们得感谢那些致力于胡同保护的人们，没有他们，可能几年后我们只能在民族文化园一类的地方看到仿制的胡同民居模型了。

大甜水井胡同，据说因为其西边有一口井，水质清冽甘甜，而“王府井”中的“井”就特指这口甜水井。
